(초보자를 위한 설악산 하이킹: 풍경이 환상적인 쉬운 코스 TOP 3)
Seoraksan National Park(설악산 국립공원) is famous for its dramatic granite peaks and challenging ridges. But did you know that you don't need to be an expert mountaineer to enjoy its stunning views? If you are a beginner hiker(초보 등산객), these three trails offer breathtaking scenery with minimal physical effort.
Table of Contents (목차)
Trail 1: The Iconic Biseondae Rocks (비선대 코스)
Trail 2: The Mystical Biryong Waterfall (비룡폭포 코스)
Trail 3: The Golden Bear & Cable Car (반달곰 동상 & 케이블카)
Essential Preparation for Beginners (초보자를 위한 필수 준비물)
1. Trail 1: The Iconic Biseondae Rocks (비선대 코스)
This is perhaps the most famous flat trail in the park. It follows the Cheonbuldong Valley(천불동계곡) along a pristine stream, surrounded by massive rock formations.
Difficulty: Easy(쉬움) / Mostly flat pavement and boardwalks.
Duration: Approx. 1 hour (one way) from the park entrance.
The Highlight (하이라이트): The massive, smooth Biseondae rocks and the legend of the fairies that once bathed there. It’s a perfect spot to relax and dip your feet in the cool water.
2. Trail 2: The Mystical Biryong Waterfall (비룡폭포 코스)
"Biryong" means "Flying Dragon," and the trail is as magical as its name. It’s slightly steeper than Biseondae but features many photogenic suspension bridges.
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate(쉬움-보통) / Includes some gentle inclines and stairs.
Duration: Approx. 1 hour (one way).
The Highlight (하이라이트): Crossing multiple bridges and reaching the waterfall, which flows down a sheer cliff. Pro Tip: Continue just 400 meters further up the steep stairs for Towangseong Waterfall Observatory(토왕성폭포 전망대), one of the park’s hidden gems (though the stairs here are very steep!).
3. Trail 3: The Golden Bear & Cable Car (반달곰 동상 & 케이블카)
Technically not a "hike," but the perfect low-effort way to start your day and get the best mountain panorama.
Difficulty: Very Easy(매우 쉬움) / Accessible for all ages.
Duration: 5-minute walk from entrance + 5-minute cable car ride.
The Highlight (하이라이트): Take a photo with the famous Golden Asian Black Bear Statue(반달곰 동상) at the entrance. Then, ride the Seoraksan Cable Car(설악산 케이블카) to Gwongeumseong Fortress Peak(권금성 정상) for stunning view of the park.
Strategy: Read our previous guide (link below) for pro tips on how to catch the earliest cable car!
4. Essential Preparation for Beginners (초보자를 위한 필수 준비물)
Even on easy trails, being prepared is crucial.
Footwear (등산화/운동화): Sturdy sneakers or trail running shoes are mandatory. The paths are often uneven.
Layers (여벌 옷): Seoraksan is windy. Even if it feels warm at the entrance, it will be cold on the suspension bridges or at the top of the cable car ride. Bring a light jacket(바람막이).
T-Money Card (티머니 카드): You will need this for the Local Bus (7 or 7-1) back to Sokcho, or for any park entrance fees.
Timing: Start your day early! Aim to arrive by 8 AM to beat the massive tour bus crowds, especially during autumn.
